Does acupuncture hurt?

The truth is, it can. Any needles inserted into the body can cause slight discomfort, however, this discomfort varies according to personal tolerance as well as specific body parts. For example, the face, hands, and feet will be more reactive than the trunk, upper arms, and upper legs. However, acupuncture needles are very thin, thus, most people are surprised that it is less discomforting than they had expected it to be.

That being said, acupuncture is generally very safe and our practitioner is very experienced and knowledgeable. Should you feel extreme intense, sharp pain, please notify the practitioner.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, we take PPO plans with most common being United Healthcare, Cigna, Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, and Blue Shield. Additionally, we now take HMO insurance such as Kaiser! Some specific plans specify that you must have certain condition(s) in order to be covered while others cover limited treatment sessions so we always advise patients to call their plan and check if it covers Acupuncture and other alternative medicine treatments (ie. Cupping Therapy, Manual Therapy (Tui Na), etc).

Fall and Winter is when healthcare plan re-enrollments start; have you considered if your health plan is covering all your alternative medical needs? Here's a few things to think about if you would like to optimize your health plan for alternative medicine:

Pay attention to the deductible. A deductible is what you have to pay a medical provider or medical service before your insurance can start paying for you. The higher the deductible, the more you have to pay at the doctor's office. The lower the deductible, the less you need to pay prior to your insurance coverage kicking in.

Lower deductible plans tend to also have a higher monthly premium. However, for alternative medicine, often times, the benefits of lower deductibles outweigh the higher monthly premiums, especially for patients who need or would like frequent ongoing treatments. For these patients, we advise to pick the lowest deductible possible so we can ensure all your health needs are met.

Keep in mind, a deductible also typically resets every January, thus, if you have a plan with a deductible, you'll need to keep paying that amount every year prior to your insurance kicking in.

Out of pocket expenses at every visit is usually set by the insurance. Some insurance plans have better rates than others so be sure to compare across insurances!

What if I don't have insurance?

We understand not everyone have insurance. Our commitment to making acupuncture accessible to everyone starts with affordable rates. Please discuss with your practitioner at the appointment regarding your specific situation.

What should I expect?

If you're new, please arrive at least 10-15 minutes ahead of scheduled time to complete paperwork. A medical history and exam will be taken in a private room followed by recommended treatment. Come prepared with a list of current medications, symptoms, and past medical history. Additionally, please wear loose, comfortable clothing that can be rolled up as needed for suggested services.

Each session length varies depending on your individual specific health needs however, you should keep in mind that our services work over a series of sessions. Some patients do experience improvement right away while others experience improved health over time as they come in for more treatments. Every body is unique and different so be patient with the process!

Doctor Tony was so friendly and nice! I felt very comfortable with him and he made my first ever acupuncture visit a breeze. His expertise is unmatched—we addressed and fixed the complaints I had, and it was more effective than any chiropractor or physical therapy visit I’ve gone to in the past. Highly recommend this practice, and Dr. Tony

Chan

Regular Patient

Toni is kind and seems to have an intuitive way of reading what his patient is ailing from. He doesn't talk much about what he's seeing, and at first I didn't think he was zeroing in what my needs were, but after several weeks of seeing improvement I know he is quite skilled.
